Evaluation

For this term in information technology, I learnt about digital citizenship. I learnt the nine elements of digital citizenships which are: Digital Access, Digital Literacy, Digital Health and Wellness, Digital Etiquette, Digital Communication, Digital Commerce, Digital Law, Digital Rights and Responsibilities and finally Digital Security. I did a little search about each, just to define the meaning of each and understanding them. After I did that was assigned to research about Digital Access. I decided to make a PowerPoint presentation about digital access.

Before I start the PowerPoint I had to follow the MYP Design Cycle I was required to do. I started to research information for my investigation. I followed the guidelines on the DigiTeen wiki. I found answers for all the guiding questions on the wiki, with help from Yazan. Yazan was my partner in this project but then somehow he ended up with the group that was doing videos about bullying. Using the information found in the investigation, I gathered them and used it in my PowerPoint. After I finished the first step of the MYP Design Cycle I moved on to the second step which is the Design. I design a story board for the PowerPoint presentation which I handed in at the same time as my investigation. I had no trouble doing it at all and it actually didn’t take that much time. I finished the story board in one lesson.

After planning everything out, it was time to create. I kept a process journal, and wrote an entry every week. Day by day I’d add to the journal the things I did in class and the steps that I took to complete this project. While I was doing the process journal I included some screen shots of what I did in that week. I think that my PowerPoint will help others realize the problem that is occurring in the world, where some people don’t have access to the internet. And when they don’t have access to the internet then it would be harder for them to communicate with people around the world and learn new things about other places and people.

Investigation

http://digiteen09-1.flatclassroomproject.org/Digital+Access

Design Brief:

To solve this problem I'm going to create a powerpoint, to explain some ways you can help digital access. I decided to make a short 3-5 minute powerpoint presentation, to help others see the problem that people are facing towards digital access. I'm going to include in it how people are using digital access positivly and negativly and the consequences of that. I'm also going to give real examples of digital access. After I explain all that I will give some possible solutions. I did some research about this project and topic, and posted it in the Flat Classroom Project, in the Digital Access page. The link to this page is one top of this blog.

Design Specification:
  • has to be about 3-5 minutes
  • has to be done by everyone in the group
  • has to have pictures
  • has to have good educational information

Journal Entry

WEEK ONE
Today I researched about digital access. I learned that digital access is when you have the access to digital items and contact the outer world. For example the internet. Actually the internet is the most common digital access able tool there is. I found some interesting information about digital access. I found a website that had good information for the background of digital access. I also found a lot of other websites that were useful and I shared them with my partner so he could use them as well and add more to the digiteen wiki.

WEEK TWO

We finished the digital wiki and I started on my story board. That didn't take so long. After I finished my story board, I started typing the other parts of the investigation. After I finished typing it, I printed it and submitted it to the teacher. I had to resubmit it two times because I forget to include things. I printed my investigation and my story board and handed it again.

WEEK THREE
Today I started on my Powerpoint presentation. I followed my story board and used the information that I found when I was researching my investigation. I found some pictures to match each slide. So basically, what I worked on this week was the powerpoint. I did my part of the powerpoint, and when I asked Yazan if he did his part he told me he is now with the video group. So I had to do all the of the powerpoint and the evaluation.

Digital Etiquette

Digital etiquette is the standards of conduct expected by other technology users. people use technology all the time. they can communicate with others all the time where ever they want, through texting, calling, e-mailing etc. there's happening a lack of tolerance while texting. some people expect responses soon after they send the message while others might expect their responses five minutes later, and if you didn't respond by that time you'll be considered to be rude.  http://www.internalcommshub.com/open/news/digital.shtml

Cyber bullying

cyber bullying has changed over the years. before, bullies bullied the weak ones and pushed them around or threatened them etc... now days people get cyber bullied online. its much easier when you threaten someone or pick on them online and not to their faces. bullying online is much different because their not hurting you physically but they can tell rumors, or post pictures online  and they can do other things that could really hurt a person. its more serious than most people think, about 40% of students say that their being bullied online. some teens committed suicide because of all the cyber bullying that happened online. day after day the cyber bullying is increasing, parents are trying to warn their children to be aware of these things and avoid them as much as possible. "Bullying is one of the top things we see around the country, and cyber bullying is the fastest component of bullying".

1. News article about technology (ipod):
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/16/AR2005081601887.html

i think this article is interesting because some people really do think that the ipod is a very important part of their life and they wouldn't go anywhere without it. a lot of people might be able to relate to what's mentioned and maybe some people think it's silly that the ipod can be part of your memory. for some people, all they do is listen to their ipod, some might think it's a waste of time and others might only listen to it at certain times of the day, such as when their in a gym or in the car etc. like mentioned in the article, "The ipod is a very powerful identity technology", i think that could be true because if a person always listens to hard rock music that could indicate that they like dark weird things; or if someone listens to a lot of dance songs, that could mean they love to dance. some people like to listen to a variety of music, that could also show their personality.

2. How can i become a responsible citizen when using technology?
to become a responsible citizen when using technology is to use it properly. for example to respect others privacy online. some people have accounts where they talk about there selves and post pictures. some people don't mind letting the world see their pictures but others do. just because your friends do that doesn't mean that you have to do that as well. a lot of people post pictures on Facebook but not all. if a person posts a picture of someone that doesn't want that picture to be posted then that's like breaking the rule of others privacy. so to become responsible online is to respect others and yourself, and not to be another person where no one knows who you are even your close friends.

3. How can i make others in my community aware of the importance of being conscientious  digital citizen and behaving appropriately when using technology and online resources?

you can tell them about it so they could be aware next time and tell others. you can tell them about the video growing up online and how people are being affected by others online, for example being bullied online. that might seem silly to be bullied online but it's an actual thing that happened to some people and got hurt from it. if people saw the video growing up online they can see what type of things happen and the type of people that do all the wrong things. you could post these informations online instead of telling because if you post it or send it by email, so these people could actually read it.
